On October 21st 2002 the final moment had come. After two unsuc- cessful runs, U-434 was moved to Baakenhafen. We all were glad, when the Hamburg Port Authority agreed to the transport, after it had to decline twice before because of low water levels.

U-434 reached Baakenhafen safely and the U-434 team under the management of Harald Büttner started their job.

After U-434 was baptized “Buki” by priest Ambrosius Backhaus the submarine museum opened its portholes to the public on November 9th 2002.
